William F. Loucks, 61, of Liverpool. Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Central Tech High School, Mohawk Valley Community College and Oswego State Teachers College. He formerly was employed as a Trainer for School Bus Drivers with the West Genesee Central School District, Onondaga County Park Ranger for 15 years, retired school teacher with the Lafayette Central School District, taught at the Gillette Road Middle School of the North Syracuse Central School District and taught summer driver education for the East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Liverpool, Liverpool Fire Department, and was active in numerous State and County Fire Police and Fire Department Associations. He is survived by his brother, John D. Loucks, Sr., of Liverpool; NC. Funeral services. Maurer Funeral Home. Intermen. North Syracuse Cemetery.

Theardis Martino, of Syracuse, departed this life April 24, 2026. Originally from Mims, Florida he made his home in Syracuse, where he became a respected entrepreneur, mentor, and devoted community leader whose impact reached countless lives. Through his wisdom, compassion, and determination, he dedicated himself to uplifting others and strengthening the community he loved so deeply.
A visionary businessman, Theardis owned and operated several successful ventures throughout his life, ranging from thrift stores to his leadership of Matawon Development Group. Through the Matawon Development Group, he worked tirelessly to help individuals with prior records obtain their OSHA 10 certification and secure sustainable employment, believing strongly in second chances and the power of personal growth. Theardis was also a proud and active leader within Rotary International. He was a former member of the Syracuse Sunrise Rotary Club and the founding member of the Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club, serving as a former president and helping maintain the organization’s strong community presence. His commitment to service extended through his work with the Southwest Community Center and many other community efforts throughout Syracuse and beyond.
Beyond his professional and civic accomplishments, Theardis was known for his warm spirit and generous heart. He had a deep passion for dogs, music, and bringing people together. Most importantly, he cherished his family and friends, always offering support, encouragement, and love. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved life partner, Brenda C. Jackson; his children, Karen Genelle Martino, Sahji Bonita Martino, Lorenzo Thornton, Tyrone Shardell, Juaquina Patterson, and Carla Jackson; and his beloved grandchildren, Terrence, Terry and Jason Butler, Amilla Carter, Sonay Simpson, and Quintessa; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and community members whose lives were forever touched by his kindness and guidance.
Theardis was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Luscious Martino, and his eldest brother, William McLendin. Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 10am–12pm at Bethany Baptist Church 149 Beattie St, Syracuse, NY 13224 with funeral services to follow at 12pm. Garland Bros. Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James (Jamie) Mathews was born in Syracuse, New York on February 13, 1944. He graduated from Central Technical High School and attended the University of Americas in Mexico City and the New York State Police Academy. James was an employee of Mohawk Airlines prior to joining the New York State Police. As a New York State Trooper he was assigned to the 270 Rifle team, Bomb Squad and Robot operator. Trooper Mathews was promoted to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations in Troop D assigned to several high profile narcotic cases throughout the State of New York. Throughout his career he received several commendations. After retirement James was elected Town Justice in Skaneateles, New York and owned Mathews & Associates investigative services. He then moved onto the Sunshine State of Florida becoming a resident of Pompano Beach. James embodied two important areas of life which were God and Country. Not to forget his fun loving humor, a unique character for sure. James was predeceased by his father, John Mathews and mother, Sarah A. Mathews. James is survived by his companion Susan Lennox of Auburn, NY, his brother, John “Jack” Mathews, a niece Sarah and nephew Anson Mathews and a great niece Mahogany Mathews. Also importantly are the many brothers and sisters in law enforcement and close relationships, all who he loved. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 14 at 10:00am in Our Lady of Hope Church, 4845 South Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
