Robert Mitchell Merante, 48, formerly of Syracuse, died Sunday at the Hospital of St. Raphael’s, Connecticut, after a brief illness. Mr. Merante, born in Syracuse, moved to New Haven in 1961. He attended the Culinary Institute of America in New haven, where he later taught. A winner of the Park Plaza Master Chef Award, he also was an instructor for the CETA Program at South Central Community College in New Haven. At the time of his death, he was employed at the Grant Street Partnership Program. He had served for four years in the US Army National Guard. Surviving are his wife, Dorene; his mother, Charlotte J. Merante of Syracuse; two sons, Francis M. and Robert C., both of New haven; a daughter, Jaime Lee Merante of New Haven; four brothers, Franci J., Matthew G., and Paul M., all of Syracuse.. and Terrence G. of New Jersey; and three sisters, Kathleen M. Lane of Georgia, and Mary J. Dunham and Therese M. Sheldon, both of Syracuse. Services: North Haven Funeral Home, North Haven, CT. St. Francis Church, New Haven. Burial in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.

William S. Mesrobian, Beloved husband of Margaret Asailian. Devoted father of Ani and Berj Mesrobian both of Natick. Dear son of William and Arpina (Sachaklian) Mesrobian of Syracuse, NY. Brother of Marian McCurdy of Ithaca, NY. Also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Services at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church, 38 Elton Avenue, Watertown, MA. Arrangements by the Giragosian Funeral Home. Bill was a professional astronomer before he began a career in computer science and published a number of papers in the field. He was invited to the Byurakan Observatory in Armenia and spent several weeks there in the 1970s. Today, Bill Mesrobian’s family have set up a fund in his name to benefit astronomy and astrophysics in the Republic of Armenia. Diane Lawrence, 77, of Marcellus, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, December 23, 2021. She was formerly employed by Onondaga Community College. She volunteered at the Syracuse Rescue Mission, was an active member of the Friends of Marcellus Free Library and enjoyed folksmarches. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Priscilla and William Metzger. Surviving are her daughter, Carrie (Charles) Grooms of Camillus; son, Luke (Katherine) Lawrence of Marcellus; and nine grandchildren. Bernadine Milewski (Sager)

More commonly known as Bernie, Bernadine Milewski Sager was born to Felix and Sophia Milewski in Syracuse, NY. Bernie grew up in Syracuse, NY where she met her husband Henry (Hank) in high school. They married while Hank was on active duty in 1962. Soon after her husband finished his 2-year tour with the Navy, the couple moved to Victor, NY. After starting their family in Victor, NY the family moved to Texas in 1978. Bernie and Hank were deeply committed to their faith and were active members of the Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church in Allen, TX. During their 53 years of marriage, they were inseparable. Bernie was devastated with his passing in 2015. Bernie passed away on March 20, 2020 in McKinney, Texas, just a few weeks prior to her 77th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband Hank, her brother Stanley, and her sister Felicia. She is survived by her son William (Bill) and wife Kristina; her daughter Wendy and husband Dean; grandchildren Veronica, Alexander, and Samantha. Due to the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 virus, there will be no viewing or funeral services. She will be interred at a later service at a National Cemetery with her husband.

Duane Money, 78, High Street, Alexandria Bay, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at River Hospital.Duane was born on December 21, 1942 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Donald and Charlotte Johnson Money. He graduated from Central Tech High School in Syracuse and attended Jefferson Community College.Duane served in the United States Coast Guard from 1961 until 1976. He married Paula Estes on May 23, 1969 at the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church. After retiring from the Coast Guard, he worked for 23 years for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster from the Morristown NY post office, in 2002. He was a member of the Alexandria Bay American Legion post 904.Besides his wife Paula, Alexandria Bay, Duane is survived by his son, Steven (Christine) Money, Highland, IL and his daughter Tonya (Kevin) Tracy, Watertown, NY, five grandchildren, and a brother, Dale (Aneata) Money, Kissimmee, FL. A sister, Norma Smith predeceased him.There will be no services.Memorial donations may be made in Duane’s name to the Alexandria Bay Rescue Squad, 110 Walton St., Alexandria Bay, NY 13607. ◼︎
