(Pauline A. Porcello) Paula A. Porcello Parolin passed away peacefully in Fairborn, Ohio with her family by her side at the age of 77. Paula was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. She worked at Bristol Labs, Agway and BOCES where she retired from. Paula was a woman with immense love for her siblings, nieces and nephews. She always opened her home and her camp to her entire family where she frequently hosted weddings, birthdays and visits. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Paula is predeceased by her parents, Louis Parolin Sr. and Concetta Tauruzzo Parolin, her former husband, Anthony Porcello and her beloved companion Victor Lobb. Six beloved brothers; Johny, Louis Jr., Richard, Alfred, Pio and Tarzy as well as three beloved sisters; Madeline Mussi, Laura Mangicaro and Pedina Canino. Paula is survived by two sisters Dolores Ferrente Dulaney and Rita Cooper, as well as several cousins in Italy. Calling hours will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday August 26, 2021, at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson at 3111 James St. Syracuse, NY. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday August 27, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Syracuse, NY with a burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt, NY. Gene Patchett

Gene R. Patchett, 71, of Liverpool, passed away on Sunday. He worked at Carrier Transicold for 40 years. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ellen; his three children, Robert (Sharon), Steven (Kelly), and Catherine (David) Moteyunas; seven grandchildren, David, Tyler, Emilee, Daniel, Nathan, Dylan, and Nicole; four siblings, Gary, Donna, Richard and Phil; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday 10 a.m. at Pope John XXIII Catholic Church, Liverpool with burial to follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

Morris Pickert, 60, of Cape Canaveral, Fl., died Saturday. Born in Syracuse, he lived there 50 years before moving away ten years ago. Survivors: His wife, Margaret; two sons, Robert of Virginia and Greg of Florida; three sisters, Cheryl Jordal of Pulaski, Pamela Laurnsbery of North Carolina and Sandra Seeland of Ohio; four grandchildren. Spencer “Spence” “Papou” Plavocos, 81, passed away on February 28, 2025, at Elderwood at Liverpool, with his loving family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Phil and Stella Plavocos and his brothers, George “Big George” Plavocos, and Alexander Plavocos of Wake Forest, NC.

Spence graduated from Syracuse Central High School where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Marie. Their love life continued for over 60 years and was a model for everyone who knew them. Spence’s early years started in the diner and family Greek restaurant business. Family and friends always delighted in holiday and birthday dinners with Greek specialties. He was a loving father. You would find Spence and Marie at every Liverpool High School marching band competition during his son’s and daughter’s high school years. He was tireless in supporting his children in every endeavor. Spence undertook chairmanship of raising funds needed to bring the band to a national competition in Florida.

Spence was a zealous advocate for mental health awareness during his 28 years as Vice President of NAMI Syracuse and 17 years on the Board of Directors of Onondaga Case Management.
Spence was a very caring man who was always devoted to his family and always willing to help anyone in need.

Spence is survived by his soulmate and love of his life for 60 years, Marie (Johnson) Plavocos; his children, Christopher Plavocos of Syracuse and Kimberly Conte of Rome, NY; his grandchildren, Breanna St. Onge of Rochester and Nicholas Conte of Liverpool; and his sister-in-law, Judy Plavocos.

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Spence’s life at 12:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NAMI Syracuse, 917 Avery Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13204.
