Services for Richard E. Northrup, 32, of 10 Wiley St., Gloucester, MA, who died at Peabody, MA, after being injured in an auto accident, will be at 8:30 am at the Carter Funeral Home and in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Mr. Northrup was a native of Syracuse. He was an electrical technician for the Draper Laboratories at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge., and lived in Gloucester 11 years. He was a graduate of Central Technical High School here and of Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Simcoe; two sisters, Mrs. Mary L. Dyer and Mrs. Patricia R. Wood; eight brothers, Ronald W., Michael C., John D., Edward W., Daniel, Matthew, Robert and Gerald.

Hattie M. Owens, 63, of 362 Cortland Ave., passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Friday at Crouse Hospital, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was a member of Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Nurses’ Guild. She was formerly employed for 38 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital until her retirement in 2002. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Alisia A. Owens of Syracuse; four sisters, Josephine Odom of Irvington, NJ, Bertha M. Harvey (Sammie), Theresa Jackson (William), and Bernice O. Broome (Joseph), all of Syracuse; two brothers, Abraham Odom Jr. and Isaiah Odom, of Syracuse; several other loving relatives and friends. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, 515 Oakwood Ave. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church. Garland Bros. CallieAnn Pappastavrou, 72, of Syracuse, NY, died Sunday, October 11, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born July 1, 1943 in Syracuse, the daughter of Constantine and Constance Pappastavrou. She attended Tompkins Elementary School, Porter Elementary/Junior High School and graduated from Syracuse Central Technical High School in 1961. Starting as a math major at SUNY Albany she went on to receive her BS in Education from Syracuse University in 1966 and later her MS in Education-Mathematics from SU. CallieAnn taught third grade at her alma mater, Porter School, for 37 years, retiring in 2003. She loved teaching and her students, devoting much of her time and her own supplies to make learning fun. She was active in many teaching workshops and organizations, especially related to math and science. She was a member of St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, was active in the church choir and the Adelphia organization. Her 1961 CTHS class stayed in touch and had mini class reunions every year. Her circle of retired teachers met often for lunch and dinner. Most of all, CallieAnn loved all things Disney, is a member of the Disney Vacation Club and has vacationed at Walt Disney World at least once or twice a year since it opened in 1971 and treated friends and family to join her at her favorite place in the whole world. CallieAnn is survived by her brother, George Pappastavrou and her two sisters, Tina Facciolo and Christine Foley. She is also survived by her beloved nieces, Cynthia, Teresa, and Maria; great-nieces, Adrieanna, Marika and Aeffia; great-nephews, Alexander and Michael; many godchildren and family friends, Lex, Doug, Jim and Chris. She is also survived by so many faithful friends – friends she taught with, friends from church, and from high school who were all like family to her. Calling hours will be Monday, October 19 at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd, Syracuse, NY 13224 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be private for the family. At the family’s request in lieu of flowers please make contributions to St. Sophia’s Church or a charity of your choice.
